The guys in Five Finger Death Punch recently posted a pretty endearing series of videos documenting their first time meeting Metallica. Despite touring the mainstream heavy music circuit for close to 15 years, FFDP & Metallica had never crossed paths until now.

Per the band when they posted those videos: " METALLICA and 5FDP has crossed paths the first time ever… It was an honor and an incredible show… And… Measured by total consumption (streams. downloads, and record sales combined) The #1 Heavy Metal band in the World is METALLICA !!! Because of you guys! The true fans… Five Finger Death Punch has sneaked up on that list to the #2 position".

Per the videos below, singer Ivan Moody describes the importance of Metallica to the band:

"Everyone sets goals, as you should. But you have to understand, for us, this is the apex, this is the climax, this is the top of the fucking hill. And it's amazing to me that we've been on tour for almost 15 years and never crossed paths with this band. And I've gotta tell you, they paved the road for any of us, and anyone that argues that fact is out of their fucking mind. The one and only Metallica."

Now, we knew that Five Finger Death Punch was a big band. You don't headline arenas with Megadeth as your direct support act without some serious draw. But, #2 biggest metal band in the world? That's an impressive claim. While we may have failed high school math, and yeah, maybe we still struggle with simple arithmetic, we still felt compelled to look under the hood at the band's data to understand this impressive factoid.

While we had trouble finding a true 'apples to apples' sales data comparison between the 2 bands & their peers, we'll say this- we're pretty damn impressed by the numbers we were able to find for Five Finger Death Punch. Here's a summary of their most impressive consumption stats:

  • Back in June of 2021, Five Finger Death Punch tied Disturbed for the most consecutive No. 1s in the history ofBillboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart
  • According to their Deezer & Spotify bios, they sold 1 million tickets… between 2018 and 2020 alone
  • They've garnered 25 top 10 hit singles and 12 #1 singles and are one of the top global streaming acts in the hard rock space
  • Since their debut album, The Way of the Fist, came out in 2007 , the band has released 7 consecutive albums that were certified either Gold or Platinum in sales

Fine, fine, fine. Color us impressed. You can watch both of their "first time meeting Metallica" videos below.
